Divorce Tips

If you are going through a divorce - consider using our easy Divorce Kit. Here are some tips below to help you through your divorce when using our divorce kit.

Courtroom Manners and Appearance:

  • Show respect for the judge.
  • Whenever the judge talks, you listen. Do not interrupt the judge for any reason.
  • Talk to the judge, not to your spouse.
  • Dress as if you are going to church on Sunday. Attorneys wear suits. You are your own attorney so dress appropriately as if you are an attorney.

Who may use these Divorce Kits?

Anyone who is involved in an uncontested divorce and whose finances are relatively simple.

SPECIAL NOTE: Unless you have a valid, signed agreement regarding property settlement and spousal support prior to your divorce in North Carolina, you rights are not protected. This is an important feature of our Divorce Kit.

What is an uncontested divorce?

In an uncontested divorce, the parties agree upon the terms of the settlement. This prevents a Court from deciding the terms of the divorce.

Can your Divorce Kit be used for a legal separation if we do not plan to divorce?

No. The Divorce Kit is designed to facilitate divorce (legally break the contract of marriage) only. Legal separations generally are more involved and it is best to have them handled by your attorney. We would be happy to meet with you, free of charge, to discuss your options.

What is a legal separation?

A legal separation, in North Carolina, is an agreement specifically establishing the rights of each party regarding child custody, support, child visitation, spousal support, and financial, or property, distribution. A legal separation is not uncommon among people whose religious beliefs or other considerations do not allow divorce.

How is child support determined in North Carolina? Can we just agree on what is paid between us?

North Carolina has guidelines established for the payment of child support. This information is included in our Divorce Kit. If your agreement is within those guidelines, the Divorce Kit will serve you well. If your agreement is not within those guidelines, it would be best to have a lawyer handle this for you.

How much do you charge for your Divorce Kit?

Our NC Divorce Kit is $250. This divorce kit is available online, and can be accessed immediately on purchase.

If I buy your Divorce Kit, how is that different from just getting forms from the Court and filling them in?

Our Divorce Kit is easier to use. It is simple to find answers to your questions and samples of the completed forms are part of the package. This saves you money on costly errors such as filing an incorrect form with the Court as well as saving you time and peace of mind.

Will I need to file with the court myself, or will you file these forms for me?

Your Divorce Kit will contain all the information needed for the filing of your necessary forms for divorce. It is simple and expedient. If, at any point you feel that you need more services, just call us. We will be happy to help. The Divorce Kit, however, is designed to save you any unnecessary expense.
